This is Part 2 of the Twist & Fade Raglan pattern (Joining the Neckline, Separating the Sleeves, or the Body). If you are looking for About, Notes, Cable Pattern, and Getting Started, please go to Part 1.

In this post, we are going to continue on with the raglan sweater. The first thing you want to do is make sure you are happy with the depth of your neckline. Lay the raglan around your neck to see if you like this depth of this neckline. If you’re in the mood for a deeper neckline, you can knit in pattern until you like the depth. Remember, the deeper you make the neckline, the more v-shaped it will become. Also, if you do knit a deeper neckline, make sure you take note of where you are in the cable pattern as your pattern rows after joining the neck will be different than stated in the pattern. You will not start the cable pattern on the front until after you join the neck, so keep that in mind.

Joining the Neckline:

If you’re happy with the neckline, then we’re ready to continue on to connecting the two sides of the front panel. We are going to continue with Row 41, then knit the rest of the way across the front to your first raglan marker for the sleeve. This will result in a new beginning of row (BOR) at the side of the sweater. I like to use a different color marker for my BOR.

Row 41 cont: after placing the cpm, k to end of row, cast on 12(14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24) st. and join for working in the round. There will no longer be a WS row. K 7(6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1), pm for cpm (this will end the cable pattern on the front), k to first raglan increase st marker. This st marker is now your new BOR. Make sure that the front and back sections of the raglan both have the same amount of stitches: 88(90, 92, 94, 96, 98, 100) sts. [302(306, 314, 318, 322, 330, 334) st total] ROW 3 on cable pattern

Row 57 - Row 76(76, 82, 86, 92, 100, 110): NOTE: the body section and sleeves sections stop increasing at different rows to create the correct yoke depth and sleeve width. To make sure you get the right sizing, cont in pattern, increasing every odd row 0(1, 8, 13, 17, 22, 27) more times for the BODY and stopping the sleeves increase as per below. Once the increases for body and sleeve become unpaired, use the increase method of your choice to maintain a consistent pattern. (ie. k1fb, M1L or M1R. Or you can cont. to use yo) Then knit straight without increasing until Row 76(76, 82, 86, 92, 100, 110) . (Keep in your stitch markers until it’s time to separate your sleeves.)

For Medium Only: stop inc on the sleeves at Row 57 (77 sts in sleeves)

For Large Only: stop inc on the sleeves at Row 61 (81 sts in sleeves)

For XL Only: stop inc on sleeves at Row 67 (87 sts in sleeves)

For 2XL Only: stop inc on sleeves at Row 67 (89 sts in sleeves)

Separating Sleeves:

Row 77(77, 83, 87, 93, 101, 111): At BOR, remove marker, k1, *transfer sleeve sts + 1 st from each side of the stitches between the raglan increase onto waste yarn [69(77, 79, 83, 89, 91, 97) sts] Keep in your cpm for all sections. On the right needle, CO 10 st, pm, CO 10st.* Join the back to the front side and continue knitting in pattern across to the next sleeve. At the next sleeve repeat * * and join back to front. Knit in pattern back to your BOR. (Make a note of which row in pattern is next so that when we pick up the sleeves, you know where in pattern you are) [236(256, 288, 312, 332, 356, 380) st on needles]

Body:

With No Waist Shaping:

Row 78 - Row 189(189, 195, 201, 207, 213, 219): cont. knitting in pattern in the round until stated row or desired length. You can try your raglan on as you go to gauge how many rows you would like to have. Remember you will be adding a 2.5” bottom band as well. Go to Bottom Band pg 9.

If you are interested in a formula on how to incorporate waist shaping specific to your body into this design, there is a tutorial included with the pdf pattern available on Ravelry and Etsy.
