Happy February everyone!! Hope 2021 so far is treating you well!
We’ve just started on our snowy season. Yesterday the sky dumped about a foot and a half of snow on us here in Montreal. Luckily, we’re all still inside and working from home. Unluckily, if I want my mail, I had to go dig out the steps. So, fun all around! lol.
ABOUT THIS Pattern:
“The measure of love is to love without measure.”
― Francis de Sales
So, you know what time of year it is! It’s hearts and flowers time! For this pattern, I wanted to have something that is super cute, but also nice and simple. I was thinking last minute crafter gifts, and something that would be good for just about any person. Who doesn’t like being gifted a heart?!
For this pattern, you’ll need a 2”-2.25” round tape measure, a little bit of yarn, and a tapestry needle!
This pattern is a quick 20 minute - 1 hour crochet (depending on what else you’re doing while making it!). It’s also great for stash busting!! The whole thing takes about 11 grams of weight 4 Aran/worsted yarn; 7 grams for the actual cover and 4 grams for the heart motif.
THANK YOU! to all my wonderful testers!

WHAT YOU NEED:
Hook Size: 4.5mm hook and a 3.5mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Yarn: Any medium weight 4 yarn. Samples made with Caron One Pound. 7g Side color and 4g heart color. 11g total.
Gauge: 16sts/18 rows = 4” in sc with 4.5mm hook
Other: tapestry needle, 2 - 2.25” diameter tape measure
ABBREVIATIONS:
Abbreviations in US terms
Ch: chain
RS: right side, the side of your crochet on the outside that everyone will see.
WS: wrong side, the side of your crochet on the inside that no one will see.
St: stitch
Sl st: slip stitch
Sc: single crochet
Inc: 2sc into the same stitch.
Blo: back loop only
Hdc: half double crochet
Dc: double crochet
Tc: treble crochet
FO: fasten off
Notes:
You can ch4 and sl st into the first ch or make a magic ring to start each section. Do what feels best to you! I felt best starting the sides with a magic ring and the hearts with a ch4, but that is my preference.
Because of the inconsistency of the thickness of weight 4 yarn, if your One Round Heart is coming out too large, try going down a hook size.

One Round Heart (make 2)
With 4.5 mm hook, ch4, sl st to first ch to make a circle. (Or see notes)
Round 1: ch3, all into center of ch4 circle, 3tc, 3dc, ch1, tc, ch1, 3dc, 3tc, ch3, sl st into center of circle. Pull circle tight.
FO Leave a long tail to sew heart to sides.
Mini One Round Heart (make 2)
With 3.5mm hook, ch4, sl st to first ch to make a circle. (Or see notes)
Round 1: ch2, al into center of ch4 circle, 2dc, 2hdc, ch, dc, ch1, 2hdc, 2dc, ch2, sl st into center of circle. Pull circle tight.
FO Leave a long tail to sew hearts together.
Assembly:
1. With RS facing out, sew the hearts onto the center of both sides.
2. With WS together, whip st the 2 sides together. Make sure your stitches are consistent but not too tight. Because both sides do not have the same amount of stitches, sew every 6th st on the larger side to the same stitch you just previously went through on the smaller side. (You will sew the 6th st from side 2 through the same stitch as the 5th st)
3. When you get halfway around, slip tape measure into the gap making sure the end that the tape measure extends from is lined up with where the hole will be.
4. Leave the 2 sc that you left unworked from both side 1 and side 2 unsown to create a square hole for the tape measure to come through.
5.Check to make sure your stitches are consistent. If you need to, you can tight them up one by one until you like the look of them.
6. With WS together, sew the smaller hearts to the end of the tape measure. Make sure that this is sewn tightly so that the pull tab does not come out of the end.
Happy Crocheting!
