Every year for Christmas, whether it is a scarf, a shawl, a hat, or a pair of gloves, I try to design a one of a kind but somewhat simple pattern for each of my loved ones. I like to create something that is special and unique just for them. I usually just start knitting and see where my needles take me. This pattern is what I came up with for my good friend Akane for last Christmas (2016).

The scarf is an easy repeat of 16 rows with a chevron on either side of a modified half-linen stitch with a 5 stitch border. Once you get the hang of the chevron pattern, this infinity scarf knits up quick and easy.

I love to see what you create!

What You Need

Needles: US size 10 (6 mm) straight or circle, your preference.

Yarn: 324-378 meters (354-413 yrds) any worsted/ medium weight yarn. I used a Japanese brand called Nana Iro Saishiki which is 85% acrylic and 15% wool.

Gauge: 14 st/20 rows = 4in stockinette on US 10  (6 mm).

Skills Needed/Abbreviations

K – knit

P – purl

yo – yarn over (bring yarn into purl position before knitting next stitch)

K2tog – knit  stitches together

ssk – Slip 2 st knitwise one at a time to right needle, put back on left needle, and knit through the back loop.

Sl – Slip stitch from left needle to right needle knitwise without knitting

wyif sl – with yarn in front, hold yarn in purl position and slip next stitch purlwise

Helpful Notes

  1. After every wyif sl stitch, make sure to return the yarn to the knit position before you knit the next stitch. Otherwise, you’re going to have random yarn overs in your knitting.

  2. Also, the 5 stitch border is not written in each line of the pattern, so don’t forget to knit it at the start and end of each row.
