Heart's Desire Headband
Hey hey!
Spring is in the air! I’m standing here (no seriously, standing desk for the win!) looking out at my garden while I type this and wishing I had time to go weed the flower beds to get started on some vegetables. Here in Canada, it’s time to start planting, and I really want to get to it this year! I’ve actually never gardened in my life, but now that we have the new back yard, I want to go fill those little spaces full of new life.
But, that’s something for another day! Today we have a headband to release!
ABOUT THIS Headband:
This is the Heart’s Desire Headband! If you guys remember, I made the Heart’s Desire a few years ago, and I had some requests for a headband with this same pattern! So, because you’ve been waiting patiently, here it is! (Sorry it took so long!) This headband is incredibly versatile. You can make it in so many different color combinations, and it’s such a cute and quick pattern, that you can truly make it to your heart’s desire!
The headband’s construction makes it adjustable so you can make it for just about any adult or teen!
The sample headband is made with Paintbox Yarns Simply DK and Lion Brand Mandala Yarns. Both yarns are DK weight 3 acrylic yarns. Any weight 3 yarn is great for this project. Use cotton and you have a great summer headband, or use wool and this headband becomes a great ear warmer for winter!
Finally, I use the chainless starting double crochet to start each row. This way of starting a row makes the edges cleaner and also aids in the look of the decrease side. This stitch is also just super handy to learn! There is a video link in the notes section if you do not know what this is. You can make the headband without using it, but it is not nearly as polished looking! Check out the video by Moogly! You really wont be disappointed! And, you’ll probably start using the chainless starting double crochet for every project after learning it!
THANK YOU! to all my wonderful testers!

Notes:
A good video for the csdc can be found here: Tamara Kelly - Moogly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFK1tTRBugQ
If you do not start with a csdc, your edges will not be as clean, especially when you start your decreases.
Carry your yarn by crocheting over unused color throughout your headband.
To make a headband in the same style as mine, alternate the color of your hearts every other row.
Increase:
Row 1: ch5, dc in 3rd ch from hook, 2dc, turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: csdc, [pf, ch1, pf] all in next st, 1dc, turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: csdc, 1dc in same st, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, 2dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: csdc, 1dc in same st, 1dc, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, 1dc, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 5: csdc, 1dc in same st, 2dc, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, 2dc, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 6: csdc, 1dc in same st, sk1, [pf, ch1, pf] all in next st, sk1, 3dc, sk1, [pf, ch1, pf] all in next st, sk1, 2dc in last st, turn. (13 sts)
Row 7: csdc, 1dc in next st, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, 3dc, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, 2dc. Turn. (13 sts)
Rep Row 7 until headband reaches desired length.
When to start the decrease: hold the starting edge of the headband at the back of your head where you would normally wear it. When the working edge reaches your ear lobe on the other side of your head, start the decrease.
Decrease:
Row 1: csdc2tog, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, 3dc, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, dc2tog. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 2: csdc2tog, 2dc, sk1, [pf, ch1, pf] all in next st, sk1, 2dc, dc2tog. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 4: csdc2tog, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, dc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: csdc, [pf, ch1, pf] all in center of puff heart below, dc. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 6: csdc2tog, dc in center of puff heart below, dc2tog. (3 sts)
Do not FO
Border:
Ch1, sc in the side of the last dc, ch3, sc in the same space. This is a picot. Make 1 picot for each row down the side of the headband. 1 picot in the first ch, sk1, 1 picot in the last ch, 1 picot in the side of the first row and every row back up the opposite side. 1 picot into the 1st dc2tog of the end, sk1, and put your last picot in the last dc2tog. Sl st into your beginning ch1.
FO
Finishing:
Sew a button onto one side. The center of the puff stitch hearts on the other end of the headband serves as button holes, making the headband adjustable.
