Boo-tastic Treat Bag
So, nothing really new has been happening here. It’s pretty much same old same old. Though, Vin and I went on vacation last week. We spent a couple days in the country and took a 14.5 km hike! It was absolutely lovely. The fall leaves were changing and it couldn’t have been more scenic! Now, we’re back in the city and back at work. Sometimes just a little break from the everyday is just what you need to get back to it!
OH! OH! Happy Halloween!
Well, it’s not quite Halloween yet, but it’s coming! Halloween is very much my favorite holiday! It’s better than Christmas IMHO. I know, probably weird, but I just LOVE IT! Last year was a bit of a bummer, so I’m trying to make this year a lot more festive! I’ve got all my decorations out, I’ve bought candy and non-food goodies for any little monsters that show up this year, and I’ve been working on a costume! Hopefully I’ll get to wear it and hand out treats this year! FINGERS CROSSED!
And, that brings me to this months pattern! I just had to make something super Halloweeny this year, and this is what I came up with!
ABOUT THIS BAG:
This is the Boo-tastic Treat Bag and it is more than ready to be filled to the brim with candy and treats! This awesome little bag is perfect for your kiddie (or let’s be honest, YOU!) to fill up with that Halloween haul. It is just the perfect size to carry just the right amount of goodies!
The Boo-tastic Treat Bag is created with sc tapestry crochet and 8 colors of yarn. Aside from the black and purple, you can easily use scraps from other projects to complete your bag. And, not only that, but you can use any colors you want to whip up your spooky theme! I personally think the purple would look great in a mustardy yellow, too, like a big fat harvest moon! I mean, check out what my testers did below!
This cute tapestry looks amazing as a wall hanging as well! One of my testers decided that’s what she wanted to do, and look how well it turned out!
The pattern calls for worsted weight 4 yarn. The sample in the pictures was crocheted with Big Twist Value yarn, which is an acrylic. But, you can use any weight 4 you desire to make your treat bag. I would suggest that if you use wool, to use a superwash since it’ll need to take a beating on your Trick or Treat adventure!

Notes:
The entire bag, aside from the handles, is made with single crochets. Because it is all sc, the directions are written with the number of sc and then the color that you should be using. For example, 53BK means 53sc in black yarn.
As I crocheted, I used yarn bobbins (ie. clothes pins) to organize my yarn and cut down on the amount of tails I would have to weave in. You can choose to carry the yarn through your project (some portions may get a little bulky with the numerous color changes), or you can use floats. Whichever option you are comfortable with is fine.
Feel free to change up the colors you use for your tapestry. The color code is based on the colors I used.
I used yarn over sc for my tapestry. Many people suggest using yarn under sc for tapestry work, though. If you choose to use yarn under sc instead, know that your gauge will be a little different and your tapestry may be a bit squashed. Make sure you make a gauge swatch before starting. You want to get as close to the stated gauge as possible to guarantee that your picture comes out undistorted.
Chains do not count as stitches.
