Winter is coming!! Or, well, is here in a lot of places, really. It’s been winter for a month or so now here. We’ve already got 2 feet of snow on the ground, so this is it for the year. Snow boots and cold weather gear! Which means it’s a great time to start creating all those cute winter accessories.

I’m not one for hats, really. I’ve never personally liked wearing them, which is weird because I LOVE designing them. My hair is SUPER thin, though, and will stay kinked or curled or flattened after like a millisecond of being under a hat. And, I get ridiculously hot so quickly inside, so I don’t really have the option of just leaving a beanie on! What’s a girl to do?

Well, wear a headband/ear warmer instead, of course!

Headbands are all the rage right now, and rightly so. They’re just so cute and a great complement to any outfit really. And, for me, I can wear them all day, inside and outside, without overheating! No more worries about terrible hat head for me! Plus, they work as ear warmers too when the weather starts to get chilly. They’re great for the in-between times where a hat is overkill, but the air is nippy enough for your ears to be cold!

The Amanda head band is the perfect accessory, and I just love the little details it has. Created using the puff V stitch and simple half double crochets, this accessory is worked up quickly. You’ll be able to make a dozen in different colors in a single afternoon! Great for those quick presents you’re going to have to come up with in the next month or so!!

For my headbands, I used Paintbox Yarns Simply DK and Lion Brand Yarns Mandala Baby. Both of these yarns have similar gauge and weight (weight 3, DK/sport). However, there are a lot of alternatives to these yarns that would work just as well. Loops & Threads Kai, Caron Cupcakes, Bernat Baby sport, Red Heart Comfort Sport or Lion Brand Wool-Ease DK Cakes are a few yarns that have either the same gauge or very similar that I believe would work very well for this pattern. Or, working this up in a cotton blend would make it lovely even for summer time. (though, cotton has much less elasticity, so you might want to go up a size). Or work it in a DK/sport wool and now you’ve got a even toastier headband!

Hope you love the Amanda Headband as much as I do!
Happy Crocheting!!

I also want to thank my lovely testers for this headband!!

Notes:

  1. Pattern directions are for average head sizes. If the head band is either too small or too large, then add or subtract by multiples of 3. Also, if you crochet tightly, it might be good to either choose a size up, or add 3st.

  2. Pf V stitches do not line up. To line them up, on Row 3 - skip the 1st st below (the one you sl st into before), then, at the end of the round, your last hdcblo should go into the sl st from Row 2 below.
