Happy Halloween!! I know I’m a day early, but still! It’s my favorite holiday! I had to say it.
I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful spooky season! My husband and I have been having a low-key one this year. We’re still new here and haven’t found all the fun fall things to do yet.
Also, things have gotten pretty chilly here! I know I’m always talking about the weather, but seriously, this town’s weather is so freaking new to me, it just continues to amaze me. I’m sure I’ll get over it eventually.
But, because the weather has gotten so chilly so quickly, and because I’m one of those crazies that wont turn on the heat until the pipes are in danger of freezing, I’ve been living in my winter hats!!
So, I was thinking that it was about time to design another new one!!
This week we have the lovely Adalynn’s Seeds, which is just a simplistic but still elegant hat of the toque variety. The repeat is super easy and with the Super Bulky single ply yarn, you’ll have this hat knit up in no time. Super soft and SUPER COZY!!!
Out of all of the hats I’ve ever made, this one is by far my favorite and my go to for all outfits!
Adalynn’s Seeds knit hat can be made using either circular needles or DPNs. I personally am terrible with DPNs, so I tend to use the magic loop method (or my version of it) to make anything in the round, but if you are more adept with DPNs, then go ahead and use those. Whichever is more comfortable!
Also, I used the 1 x 1 rib cable cast on for the brim of my hats. It is a stretchy cast on and looks great on anything ribbed. If you’re not familiar with this CO, there are tons of helpful videos on Youtube. The long-tail method also makes a great stretchy CO, so that one would work for these hats as well!
For my hats, I used 1 skein We Are Knitters - The Wool 100% Peruvian Highland Wool in colorway Pearl for the light colored hat and 1 skein Cascade Yarns Spuntaneous 100% Extra-Fine Merino Wool in colorway Blue Coral for the blue hat (I no longer buy this yarn, but I did use it to design this hat). Both have very similar gauges stated on their labels, and I saw no discernible difference in gauge between the two when knitted up. Some lovely alternatives to these 2 yarns would be Knit Picks Tuff Puff or The Big Cozy, and Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool. Honestly, most super bulky single ply yarns would work for this hat! (I am not affiliated with any yarn distributers, I just like their yarns).
I have a 21” - 21.5” circumference head (it seems to go back and forth between, I’m not sure if that’s normal, but you know…) and made the Teen/Adult Small hat. I only needed 1 skein of yarn and had enough yarn left to *almost* make a second hat, so for all hat sizes you should only need 1 skein.
As for the faux fur bobbles, you can pick those up at most LYS or Amazon, OR you can make your own like I did. I’ll be making a post of that coming soon!
